Introduction

Introduction

On a large Amazon account, PPC can quietly burn tens of thousands of dollars a month on clicks that never convert. The goal is not to spend more, it is to spend where it sells. This is the same Beauty wholesale account from our Amazon wholesale case study, where our agency manages the full account, including advertising for the brands we represent.

ACOS and reporting

01

Keyword research

We built keyword lists from search term reports, competitor products and Amazon's search suggestions, then grouped them by intent so each keyword sits in the right campaign.

02

Structured campaigns

Sponsored Products were split into exact, phrase, broad, auto and product-targeting campaigns, so we always know which searches bring sales.

03

Bid optimization

Bids were raised on keywords that convert profitably and lowered on keywords that spend without selling, reviewed on a regular schedule.

04

Negative keywords

Search terms that brought clicks but no sales were added as negatives, cutting wasted spend.

05

Sponsored Brands for the brands we represent

Headline and video ads built brand awareness, branded searches and new-to-brand customers.

06

Sponsored Display retargeting

Display campaigns reached shoppers who viewed the products but did not buy.

07

ACOS control linked to profit

Every product had a target ACOS based on its real margin, so ads grew sales without eating the profit.

08

Reporting

Weekly and monthly reports on spend, sales, ACOS, CTR and conversion, with clear next steps.

What the numbers show

From January to March 2026, monthly Sponsored Products spend fell by about half (about $236K to about $114K) while ad sales fell by only about a fifth (about $1.51M to about $1.18M), taking monthly ACOS from about 16% to about 10%. At the same time, March 2026 was the account's strongest month at $5,694,975.81 in total sales, so cutting wasted ad spend did not slow the business down. From January 1 to April 11, Sponsored Products spend of $581,999.94 was about 3.7% of the account's $15,540,512 total sales. Between March 12 and April 10, about 21% of ad clicks turned into purchases (22,576 from 106,897). Sponsored Brands in March brought 10,766 purchases from new-to-brand customers. Ad sales are the sales Amazon attributes to the ads, not profit.

Frequently asked questions

What is ACOS?

Advertising cost of sales: ad spend divided by the sales those ads brought in. A 13.08% ACOS means $13.08 spent on ads for every $100 of ad-attributed sales.

It depends on your profit margin. A good ACOS is one that stays below your margin so ads stay profitable. We set a target ACOS for each product based on its real numbers.

Sponsored Products promote single products in search results and on product pages. Sponsored Brands show your brand logo, a headline and several products or a video. Sponsored Display retargets shoppers and reaches audiences on and off Amazon.

Yes. Sponsored Brands are available to brand owners enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry, and to sellers and agencies working with those brands.

Yes, especially when you represent a brand directly. This account is a wholesale account, and advertising for the brands it represents helps grow sales for both the brand and the seller.

Most accounts see changes within the first few weeks of optimization, while new campaigns usually need more time to collect data before bids can be fine-tuned.

Total advertising cost of sale: ad spend divided by all sales, including organic. It shows how dependent the account is on ads.

Not if the cuts are made in the right places. Removing spend that does not convert lowers ACOS while keeping the sales that matter.

No honest agency can guarantee an ACOS, because it depends on your products, prices and competition. We guarantee careful management and clear reporting.
